Knowledge of the human anatomy plays a crucial role in the pursuit of a medical degree. The Department of Anatomy sprouted under the leadership of Dr. Rajarajeswari.P (MBBS, MD) during inception of MES medical college in 2004, when only MBBS course was offered. With the growth of this institution, the department has expanded to impart teaching and training programs in human anatomy to undergraduate, postgraduate medical students and other undergraduate courses like BDS, BSc. Nursing and BSc. MLT as approved by KUHS & MCI.
The teaching is aimed at equipping students with knowledge for their clinical studies, enabling them to become competent and confident doctors in their future endeavors. The anatomy teaching in the department is a combination of didactic lectures, dissection and demonstration of cadavers, microscopic study of individual organs and teacher-student interactions in the form of seminars and symposia for which students are divided into groups. Lectures are made lively with the use of multimedia aids and devices. Students are encouraged to actively participate in teaching and learning process. Periodic evaluation is conducted so as to stimulate academic improvement.
Dissection hall
The dissection hall is spacious with ventilation, adequate light source to accommodate 150 students. There are separate rooms for embalming, cadaver storage and cold storage. The students are motivated to develop their skill in dissection so as to understand the human body architecture. Students are also provided with prosected parts. The bones are displayed in a unique way for easy access to the students.
Histology laboratory
The laboratory is equipped with more than sixty microscopes (uniocular, binocular, dissection microscope & microscope with T.V. monitor). It helps students understand the microscopic structure of human tissues.
Demonstration rooms
Two demonstration rooms to accommodate 60 students each, well equipped with Audio-visual teaching aids, L.C.D projector and over head projectors
Museum
A well organized comprehensive anatomy museum comprising of more than 300 specimens, models, charts skiagrams etc. which are displayed region wise. Specimens of rare congenital fetal anomalies are the added attraction to the museum.
Research Lab
The research laboratory is well equipped with binocular research microscope, dissecting microscope, incubator, digital scale, electronic balance. The research laboratory provides an ideal environment for the faculty & students to carry out the research activities.
Department Library
Departmental library has more than 200 books for the need of students, post graduates and faculty. The department has collections of software programs of Anatomy like Real Anatomy for self study, interactive session and assessment.
