The department was started in the year 2004 and has now developed into a fully fledged one, with comprehensive teaching programs for the undergraduate students of the MBBS & BDS courses. The department is staffed with one Professor, two Assistant Professors and four Tutors. The university examination results have been excellent with eight batches of MBBS and BDS students securing good result with several distinctions and first classes. The Medical Council of India had granted permission to start Post graduate courses leading the award of MD Degree in Pharmacology from the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) in 2011. Currently there are four students perusing MD Pharmacology degree in the department.

The department actively encourages Research work by both the staff and students. Several papers have been presented at various academic conferences at both National and International levels by the teaching staff attached to the department.
